The Canvas Chronicles - Summer Kick-Off Edition 2023

Our May & June Inspiration

After fighting through April showers, everyone begins to emerge - from school, from gloomy weather and from winter mindsets - to welcome in the summer months. May & June are reminiscent of fresh, warm vacations that celebrate the beginning of summer. Following a season of wind and rain, these months represent a clean slate that prepares the way for the summer weather to roll in.

Taking this into homes, we pull out fabrics that feel like fresh laundry, dyed in colors that are easy on the eyes: soft blues, gentle greens and youthful yellows. Nothing says “Summer” quite as well as florals, winding greenery and contrasted stripes, which we gracefully tie into common living areas to bring life to a space.

With combinations such as vivid blues and warm whites, we aim to capture the classy and timeless mood that this point in the year reminds us of. There is something timeless and sentimental about the beginning of summer, a time that most people associate with family vacations and a breath of fresh air from school. May & June  inspires us to use a timeless take on beachy themes - complete with sandy neutrals, vibrant colors and woven wicker elements.

Nothing makes us want to get outside more than this lovely weather, so for this edition of the Canvas Chronicles we turned our eyes outdoors and found Storybrook Farm. This non-profit began in  2002 with just two ponies, a horse and a dog, and today has become a far-reaching, 52-acre facility that touches the lives of local Auburn-Opelika families daily. Storybrook’s goal is to meet the needs of children who deal with emotional, behavioral, or developmental challenges through animal-assisted and nature-based programs. This provides “a safe, supportive, and enriching environment where … joys and accomplishments are celebrated.”

Storybrook Farm offers tons of ways to get involved: Volunteer work, internships, partnerships and more. To learn more, visit: https://www.hopeonhorseback.org/getinvolved.
